Classroom
Visits

Our KOSS
instructors as well as our partners can visit your
classroom and teach a variety of subjects with
hands-on activities. Our curriculum will
follow Oregon State Standards for the classroom
with activities that enhance awareness and
appreciation for the outdoors. See our lists of
subjects below.
-
Mammal
Adaptations: Students study skins, skulls,
and tracks of different mammals and understand
how they survive in their different
habitats.
-
Fundamental
Forestry: partnered with the Oregon
Department of Forestry, students learn the
importance of our forests, basic anatomy of trees,
and conservation techniques used
today.
-
Watershed
Workshop: What is a watershed? Where does
the water in your drinking fountains come from? Why
is water important? What is the value of water?
These questions and more are answered as
students become aware that water is an important
resource that is not to be wasted. Topo
maps are brought to the classroom to teach
topography and the movement of
water.
-
Bird Buddies:
Ornithology 101! Students appreciate the necessity
of birds in our ecosystem. Migration,
adaptation, and bird calls are focused on in this
lesson.
-
School Yard
Habitat: partnered with US Fish &
Wildlife and developed throughout
a school year, students map out the
habitats that surround their school grounds and
learn how to protect or improve them in order to
aid wildlife. Students appreciate the
many resources that make up a habitat, specifically
food, water, shelter and nursery areas
that all wildlife needs to
survive. Concepts such as
biodiversity, types of habitats, and
stewardship are understood. This program
offers learning opportunities in science,
english, mathematics, history, geography, social
studies, and art.
