Forest Monitoring

The three Forest Monitoring Kits are designed for students Grades 6-12 to experience hands-on lessons in measuring diameter, height, age, volume, and percent canopy cover of trees in a forested area. Each kit will serve six to eight students, and contains 100 ft., 50 ft. and 10 ft. measuring tapes, rulers, increment borer (age), clinometers (height), basal area angle gauge (volume), and a densitometer (canopy cover). Laminated instructions sets are included to assist with equipment use. These kits can be used with no experience in forest measurements, and are a great way to allow students to see how forest management decisions are made.
